Woohoo! I finished the first draft of my novel last night.

It weighs in at a svelte (emaciated?) 21 chapters and about 51000 words (almost 52000!), but I still have work to do, including adding some scenes that I didn't realize I should have added until after I had already progressed further into the writing.

Once I've had a chance to edit it myself, I'll probably ask some friends if they wouldn't mind reading through it.

You know, you're inspiring (or embarrassing, I'm not sure which) me to work on my own novel a lot more lately. I got two more chapters edited and their changes put into the computer this past week.

Mine stands at about 82,000 words right now... very slow for several years of work.

Well, if it helps, after speaking with you for a bit, I was able to finally sit down (yes I had to print the manuscript) and edit the first 20 pages. I'm hoping to get the first pass editing done this week.

And I'm glad to hear you're progressing with your novel. Besides, the good ones take the longest. Means you're still in the running for "Most Awesome Novel Ever" award. Or something.
