| About Write On! |
Write On! is a place where writers of all genres can discuss the art and craft of writing. We discuss any aspect of fiction writing, from "the rules" to reviews, from how people act when winning the lottery to the hows and whys of nanotech. Our goal is to share our knowledge and improve our writing by drawing on the knowledge of everybody around us. While beginning writers are welcome, the goal of this site is to go beyond "the basics" and delve into more advanced topics. We assume that you already have a reasonable grasp of fundamentals such as spelling, grammar, the difference between first and third person, and what terms such as "protagonist" and "conflict" mean. Articles are welcome from anybody with anything to say on the topic of writing. This includes those unpublished who think they couldn't possibly be authoritative--yes, you! Articles don't have to be the definitive authority on everything writing; pick a smallish topic and learn something about it, then tell us what you learned. Maybe go have a look through the list of sections and topics to see if any combination sparks an idea. The articles published here are chosen by the members as they see fit. We believe that all genres can learn from each other and that the genre segregation usually seen on writers' websites stunts our growth and leads to time-wasting repetition as writers in each genre discover the same thing independantly. We believe that bouncing ideas between people of different writing backgrounds and styles produces more complex, more polished, and more interesting ideas. Long discussions and spirited debate are encouraged; Write On! has several features to facilitate continuing discussions, such as hotlists to bookmark a favourite article, and new comment markers to let you know which comments you haven't seen yet.
