Experimenting with a serialized novel

It's been a long time since I browsed the site. Heck, it's been even longer since I set pen to paper (metaphorically... I'm a computer geek so it's all electrons for now).

Glad to see things are still going on here. :)

Well, I'm writing again. Another story... I hesitate to say novel because it's not finished yet, but yes, I'm shooting for a longer than short story.

In this case, though, I'm serializing it. I'm a member of a forum that has little to do with story telling but does happen to have a 'Stories' area. Not k5 btw. Anyway, I'm posting chapters there as I'm finished with them, getting feedback as I go. It's sort of an experiment for me. What sort of feedback will I get as I go? How good or bad will the story be as a result?

I have to say, I feel exposed... yet at the same time liberated, as I've already committed... I can't stop now, I've already got an audience, so I have an impetus to continue writing each chapter, and in a timely fashion, too.

So I'm wondering what others have experienced with writing serially. I'm not expecting to produce "Great Expectations", but I'm curious how this will turn out.
